In the Brooder
Hi, I'm super new to the world of chickens as my husband and I are on this new adventure together! (He just posted his intro under RaiderMatt9.) As of now we just have 7 chicks in the brooder that are approximately 2 weeks old now... but WHOA are they ever growing fast!
We have purchased a 7 X 7 Rubbermaid storage shed and we plan to start converting it into our chicken coop this weekend. We've got to get those girls more space ASAP! lol
For now, we plan to raise our chickens in a run, but if we eventually get good at what we are doing, we might move to free-ranging them. We definitely have the space. We are just planning on raising the chickens for egg production. I'm dreaming of farm fresh egg salad already.
We live on 7 acres in Udall, Kansas along with our 2 daughters that are 7 years old, as well as sons that are 18 and 19. I am an special education preschool teacher and I am VERY eager to finish this school year so I can finally get to the summer! I also run a small business where I make glitter cups (hence the Glitterific reference) and I plan to enjoy my summer by being blissfully covered in either glitter OR chicken poop.
(Not both at the same time....) I have a TON to learn, so I'm sure I'll be reading up on lots of topics on here. Thanks for letting me join.
