Greetings from NE Ohio.
We got our first chicks in April of 2009.
Against my better judgement, we started with 3 chicks and 4 days later we got 13 more.
The first three were purchased at auction and claimed to be golden comets although one looks and acts like a rooster. (I was under the impression that if they were dark in color they were hens and the light ones were roosters)
Of the 13 others, we have:
4 Rhode Island reds
2 Turkens (one white, one dark)
2 are supposed to be Ameraucana
1 is white with feathers on the legs (and acts like a rooster)
2 are black with a little white
1 has the colorings of a chipmunk
1 (fuzzball) yellowish with feathers growing up on her head
In doing my research before getting the chickens I came across backyardchickens.com. It's been a tremendous resource!
In addition to the chickens, we have 2 nigerian dwarf goats who get along great with the chicks. One dog who would prefer to play with the chickens and one cat who just watches the whole thing unfold!
I am also a photographer.
Thanks in advance for the warm welcome!
