Hello Everyone. I am new to raising chickens and hope to learn much from ya'll. I'm building my coop and run now and picking up my hens after Easter. I'm not completely sure about the breeds yet but my breeder specializes in rare breeds with unique plumage and/or colored eggs. He is recommending Black/Copper Marans and Pearl Legbars. I will probably get 2 each of those and 2 of another breed. My coop/run is roughly 12 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 5 feet high. I have lots of questions and concerns as I'm sure you all did when you first got started. Thanks for allowing me into your group and I look forward to interacting with you here!
Thanks again,
Chris

Welcome to BYC!!!! Sounds good! You might know, and you probably did research, but make sure you add lots of ventilation to your coop! I wish I knew a lot more before I got my birds, and that was one of them! Good luck with your flock!! You should make a post when you get your birds!!! 😁

:welcome So glad you joined! This is a great place to get advice and learn how to better help your flock! Marans and Legbars are both great birds. I'd also suggest Red Blue or Golden Wyandottes and Easter Eggers/Ameraucanas.
Thanks, SilverBirds. I will see if any of those are available from my breeder.
