New to chickens & Backyard Chickens group

Hello,

We moved a year and a half ago to Maine and an old farmhouse complete with a very tidy chicken coop. We hope to start with a flock of 3-4 this spring. I found a link to you on the Maine Extension website.

We've been encouraged to get Rhode Island Reds for all good reasons now that we've read up on them. Our challenge will be to find sexed chicks in time we suddenly realize. We are very new to this and it's nice to be part of this experienced community.

RIRs are a popular breed that the farm stores usually carry in the spring. You could visit your local farm store and ask if they will be getting any in and when.
