Hi everyone,
My husband and I had been talking about chickens for the past several months and finally got 8 pullets about 6 weeks ago. Oh, they are so much fun to watch. It has been a real joy and a great adventure for he and I to do together. The kids are not interested at all, in fact, I think they think we're a bit crazy

Anyway, we got 4 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Sexlinks. We have named them all after various dictators wives/girlfriends. Unfortunately one of our Sexlink beauty's is ill (we think) She is unable to walk. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong w/ her legs or feet, she just started becoming a bit wobbly a couple days ago and now if completely immobile. We have her isolated in a box w/ her own food and water (including electrolytes) but she doesn't seem to be getting any better. She is laying as if she is running a hurdle. She is lethargic and not eating or drinking much. It is breaking my heart

I was hoping someone here might know what we should do. I hate seeing her suffer. Like I said, we have never owned chickens or any livestock before, except dogs, cats, fish, gerbils, hamsters and guinea pigs. If anyone has any suggestions, I would be so thrilled to hear.
As to our other 7, they are thriving and doing great. Apparently chickens love beet greens and yogurt

They bring us much joy as well as hours of entertainment and I am looking forward to getting eggs in the next 6 weeks or so.
I am so excited to be a part of this site, I know it will a lucrative and educational adventure.

from Australia! Glad to have you join us!

I don't know what has happened to your hen, but I would reccomend posting in Emergencies/Diseases/Injuries and Cures.

Hope she gets better!

That is really nice of all of you.
I have had some great replies re: our girl and I have been able to find some really good information on this site already. Hopefully we will be able to help her and it won't spread to the rest of our girls.
