Hi there!
I'm Jen, I used to have chickens when I was a little girl. We have always lived in the city though so we always had stipulations...and lots of stray cats! Needless to say I never really got very far in the world of chickens.
Now I'm 26 and married with a family & home of my own, Corbin, 3, & Calissa, 16 months. I went to the local feedstore for my dog food that I can't buy anywhere else & of course my kids got all excited over the tiny baby chicks. Then I got excited too after I saw they were the "hairy footed ones" lol and picked up a tiny black and tiny golden silkie bantam. That was it, I bought them even though I knew my husband would kill me & brought them home. That was about 2 months ago & now I have 2 fat fluffy silkies. I'm pretty sure the golden is a rooster & the black one is a hen. Fortunately, fowl is allowed in city limits here in Deer Park, TX.Yesterday I adopted someone's Easter reject from Craigslist & now have a partially green chick too. I've always been the "crazy animal lady" & also have 2 dogs and a cat.
Next on my list of things to do is figure out how to build a coop & get a good laying hen, since I read that silkies aren't really the greatest egg layers.
There's a little about me & my flock...glad to be here so I can learn more about my new friends!
