Hi! I'm 22 and just out of college, moving down to south Florida and renting my own 1.3 acre property

So excited about being able to garden, and more excited about... getting chickens!

I've recently become obsessed with the idea of getting a few chickens, no idea why. As an animal biology graduate from UF, we dealt mainly with white leghorns (which never particularly interested me), but ever since seeing the exotic varieties on exhibition at the South Florida Fair I have wanted some!

I definately want bantams, am thinking the silkies, polish, and sultan types are the ones I want. Also interested in maybe a peacock and maybe a red golden pheasant, I have more research to do on those, however.

Very excited about my new foray into chickendom, have been doing quite a bit of research... looking forward to meeting other chicken fanatics, hopefully some from Florida

Having a hard time finding a chicken source so I am thinking about getting eggs off ebay and hatching them and hopefully rehoming the males.

Also am curious as to whether there are a lot of people my age on here? Would love to meet chicken fanciers my age, I know my friends think me a bit strange for wanting to garden and have chickens wandering my property

Ahh to be 22 and full of enthusiasm, opportunity and energy and stuff. I'm neither around your age nor in Florida. But I wish you well on your endeavor. Wish I had your opportunity way back when.
But I am finally able to get close to living the life I wanted when I was 22.

Beware, once you start with chickens, you can't stop...

from western West Palm Beach, FL! Where exactly are you moving to? You may be right in my neighborhood. There are a number of places, commercial & private, to buy both chicks & adult birds here. In Palm Beach County there is also a "Chicken Club" that meets once a month, and mans the poultry tent at the South Florida Fair, check it out at http://www.poultryfanciers.com Maybe I met you there in Jan, who knows? You can answer here or email or PM me. You've got lots of fun in your future!
