I will have to join the "Chicken Club."

Do you keep roosters there? I was curious... I assume I am going to have to rehome any chicks I got that turn out to be roosters, my property is an acre but it seems like the roosters could be too loud?

Anyhow... thank you for the warm welcomes everyone

I just got my first chickens yesterday, so I'm pretty excited. I got 4 day old chicks from a feed store, I wasn't even looking to buy chicks and as I drove past I saw a sign that said "We have hot chicks!" I just had to do a u-turn and check it out. I got a white or really light blue silkie bantam, a white sultan (invoice said standard but im hoping its bantam), a (hopefully) silver laced polish bantam, and a white-crested black polish bantam. I really hope they turn out to be pullets

I figure I'll rehome the cockerels, I don't know what else to do... couldn't find any hens for sale up here.

Today I visited a farm and bought a 2 week splash silkie bantam, and a 8 week gold laced polish bantam who is just such a character. I also got 2 red golden pheasant chicks and a lady amherst pheasant chick, and an india blue peafowl chick (pleaaaase be a cock!) The woman I bought them from was very nice and said if my chickens turn out to be cockerals I can trade them back for different chicks, and same with the pheasant (want 1 or 2 to be female though) and the peachick...

I am worried about the silkie chick I bought today though, its breathing is labored and gasping and stretching its neck with each breath. Does that sound like gapeworm? =/ I am trying to find more information about gapeworm treatment. I have safeguard (fenbenzadole) and pyrantel pamoate at hand...

edit: I have pictures of the chicks, I guess I will place them in the photos forum...
