What a perfect present for Valentines Day! My husband must have been on that wave length too - He built me a pretty amazing chicken coop that I 'designed' a while back, but never had the time to do anything with! And my babies are arriving in a few weeks! I'd love to hear your new mommy tips if you stumble upon something great! But Welcome! from South Carolina!

Nice to meet you! I'm Marie. We're going on our 10th year as a chicken loving family. I'm glad to see you found this forum site, hope you enjoy as much as I have!

I also am in Australia, Sydney in fact. Basic tips? all scraps from the table are good. Pretty much everything but citrus, onions and banana peels goes in mine. Supplement with some layer pellet (depends on how many scraps). If you ever are rural, then Country and Rural stores have 20 Kilo bags always. Fresh water. If the coop is open such that they *may* fly out; clip only one of their wings. Many posts on that here , is does not hurt them and scissors are the tool. IF the coop is small and you do get smells, just throw a handful of lime on the ground, which neutralise the amonia smells. 4 Australorp hens with a bit of Rhode Island Red in them.
