Hi and from Ohio. So glad you joined. Don't give up on that Buff just yet. I had one once that had the largest comb you ever saw. We thought for sure she was a roo. Also, you might want to put some windows in the coop. Come winter, the are going to need the light to keep them laying eggs.
I do have windows in the coop - I think just hard to see in the pic- on the right side there is a big door that opens and there is a window in that. Also, at the top of the coop there is a large gap that I covered with wire for ventilation. It is angled and lets in a lot of light as well. There is also a window in the back of the coop. I believe I have plenty of light (the coop faces the sun when it rises in the morning and then the light comes in the back window in the afternoon.) I can always add another window though if needed.
I did bring the roo back to the wonderful people I got him from. They did tell me in the beginning I could bring him back, but I didn't want to be "that person" and bother them. So was gonna try and find a home on my own. But that proved very difficult. So I did bring him back. They are going to keep an eye on him.......they did say he does look a bit "male like" haha. I am positive he is a roo. His comb is RED, while all the others were definitely much lighter. He also had the thing under his beak growing and that was quite large and red. None of the others had that. His behaviors also were very roo-like. Bossy, barging through all the females. He is much larger and stood up much straighter than the others. He also seemed to always be rounding the group up at night to go in the coop. I feel much less stressed now. I didnt want to upset the neighbors if he started crowing!!!! I do feel bad and will miss him, but I know he has a good home where he is now
