I am a brand new chicken keeper. I'm 24 and live in a small house with my husband and two cats in south Michigan. I love all kinds of animals, and I've always wanted to try my hand at raising chickens once we had space for it. I love farm fresh eggs and the idea of being a little bit more sustainable and giving hens the best life I can.
That being said, I mostly have expereince with horses and other large mammals so I don't have much confidence in raising them right now! Hence why I joined this forum community in addition to using my friends and coworkers as resources!
Right now, I have 4 Australorp pullets that we purchased from Tractor Supply. They're getting close to two weeks old at time of posting. I'm hopeful for them to grow up healthy and strong so they'll be able to enjoy my backyard free ranging a bit and the coop we built for them.
I feel a bit overwhelmed by the amount I feel like I DON'T know! When we talked about getting chickens, and when doing my research I felt confident, but reading/watching things and actually doing it are very different! I'm looking forward to getting the extra support from all of you!
