our jap bantams are still afraid of us sorta, so we think they were sorta mistreated before we got them... they still are super cute though

Zathura12:

Good news about your RIRs still laying. The japanese bantams are like that. At least the ones that I had. They are very flighty too I've found, but that's good if they are free rangers because they out smart and escape really well from any predators. That's what ours did. When all our other sixteen chickens were caught by foxes or hawks - they survived. I don't understand how anyone can mistreat any animal at all. I hope they settle in and start to trust you more. Feed them lots of treats!

Where do you get your mealworms. I've never heard of them before. Are they dried? Like the fishfood worms are? How much do you give them? What are they good for? Thanks. Angela (dsquawker)

I get them at the feed store and also the pet store... i'm pretty sure they are the aquarium-y ones cause the one from the pet store has a turtle on it.

i usually drop a few for each of them and they love to gobble them up. the reds like it especially. once they figured out i had them, they would run to me and then wait.
