Hello,
I'm currently residing and helping on a farmstead near Sedgefield, in the Western Cape of South Africa.
As part of my farm duties I was assigned the task of constructing some nesting boxes for the chicken coop the farm owner has planned. Since there wasn't any detailed plans yet I got more involved with the design as well. Currently there is the just the outline of the run with some fences and a roof already installed, which also serves as the composting area. Everything else still needs to be built.
I started doing research online which led me to this site, so here I am. The general plan is to start out with about 30 chickens of various breeds, and eventually expand this to about 100 chickens, and other fowl such as ducks and geese. It will mainly be for egg production.
I've already started with some of the groundwork, gathering materials and have a general design sketched out for the nesting boxes. There are plans to also build a pond, some black soldier larva feeders, perhaps even more such as "tunnels" around the greenhouses so the chickens can safely roam around, so I'm quite enjoying and looking forward to the undertaking.
I look forward to posting updates as things progress.
Warm regards,
Haan
