New to chickens? how many are you starting with?

Starting with 6 Red Stars. (2 weeks old)

I started with 14 chicks 6 weeks ago, 4 BR, 4 BO, 4 SLW and 2 RIR moved them out to the coop with their heat lamp now I have 18 more chicks in the brooder, 3 W/Crested Black Polsih, 2 W/Crested Blue Polish, 2 Splash Polish, 2 Mottled Houdan, 1 ?, 1 silver pencil Cochin and 7 EE pullets......... THATS IT....LOL ugh.

I do have some roosters, identified 4 already that will have to go, keeping one rooster...the prettiest/friendliest/nicest to the hens. I figure 5-6 roosters from the first batch and probably the same from the second batch. so my numbers will be down.

I am new as well and have started with 9 golden comet/amber link (not sure which) hens, and two un-sexed australorps! I am dying to know whether my australorps are roos or not!! They are too little to tell though

I think they are about a week old. I love BYC though all my questions are answered!

I planned on just 3, but they were just so durn cute I couldn't help it, so now we have 6 - 2 columbian wyandottes, 2 silver-laced wyandottes, 2 speckled sussex. Names are Mabel, Betsey, Sylvia, Emmadine, Ruthie and Clarice.

I'm more of a city girl so my first experience was with 12 meat birds. Afterwards I ordered 23 barred rocks, however due to a horrific incident, I had to start all over this year. Ordered 30 chicks, straight run so that I would also have a couple of roosters. 28 survived the first couple of days. Friday, I picked up 10 more. It's like a addiction. So now I have 28 3 1/2 week old barred rocks, and 10, 5 day old mix. (1 br, 1 blk sexlink, 1 RR, 1 golden comet, 2 arraucana, & 4 buff orphington. It's a good thing that I have limited space, otherwise I would probably get more.

Actually, I started with 6 Mallards. Lost 3 to the pond across the road. Have 3 of the originals and one adopted, totally four.

I am starting with 6 Speckled Sussex pullets. Half dozen seems to work for me.

I just started last week and brought home 4 of the most adorable fuzzy butts.

We are building our chicken coop to house about 8-10. Hubs thinks that if he builds it small I won't accumulate more!!!

He's crazy! I want more already and I only got these divas last friday!!

If i would of known how much fun they are or how much I get out of them I would of done this along time ago!!!

I planned on 4, but now am thinking 6. I'm going tomorrow to get some, so we'll see how many I end up with

My DH and I have gone nuts. We have just hatched 14 of our own (10 Australorps and 3 SLW) and we have 24 chicks on the way and set for delivery on the 7th of April, THEN I am possibly buying 5 buff orpingtons on top of that. OH GEEZ! I just did the math.... we are newbies at this too!!!
