New to chickens in AZ

Hey guys-

I am new to owning chickens but have been intrigued by the idea for a long time. I now have a home that we will be in for a long time and we have decided to pull the trigger and start ourselves a little flock. We live in Glendale,Az and we are trying to decide on what breed would be best for us. we live in a neighborhood (with no hoa!!) but i want to be respectful to our neighbors and keep the noise down as best as we can. ANY and ALL input and advise would be helpful.

There is a TON of information about different breeds regarding their cold or heat tolerance, flightiness or calmness, size, egg color, etc. and all kinds of wonderful ideas for coop & run designs. Being in Glendale, chances are that your chicken operation will be illegal. Just accept that you are a criminal and do what you need to do, but be discrete. The less the neighbors know about this, the better. Conceal the coop and keep the hens out of sight.
