Hey guys-

I am new to owning chickens but have been intrigued by the idea for a long time. I now have a home that we will be in for a long time and we have decided to pull the trigger and start ourselves a little flock. We live in Glendale,Az and we are trying to decide on what breed would be best for us. we live in a neighborhood (with no hoa!!) but i want to be respectful to our neighbors and keep the noise down as best as we can. ANY and ALL input and advise would be helpful.

Thanks, Logan-

welcome from western Kentucky! There is a TON of information about different breeds regarding their cold or heat tolerance, flightiness or calmness, size, egg color, etc. and all kinds of wonderful ideas for coop & run designs. Pull up a chair and prepare to be amazed at the wealth of information available here! You'll also find there are some wonderful, friendly, helpful people on here with some great input. So glad you could join us! Please stop in again soon, and often!

Check out the Arizona Chickens thread on this website. There is a lot of good information there.

Being in Glendale, chances are that your chicken operation will be illegal. Just accept that you are a criminal and do what you need to do, but be discrete. The less the neighbors know about this, the better. Conceal the coop and keep the hens out of sight.

Good Luck,

Rufus
