My daughter and I live in the city, she has been involved in 4-H for a while and we decided to get chickens this year. We have six sexlinks that we got at The beginning of the year and they've been producing eggs for a little over a month now. Although we couldn't take chickens to the fair this year there was chicken related activities and my daughter placed 3rd in both of her projects! Not bad for her first year! We are having so much fun with the chickens, and plan to do and learn a whole lot more! And oh my goodness their eggs are so delicious!

I agree about the eggs tasting great! Ive only been keeping chickens since January but its a bug that grows. I started off with three, then decided to start breeding them with no particular aim in mind. Im about to set another ten eggs - my wife thinks I'm totally mad!!

Enjoy!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. Our children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of the calmer and more gentle breeds. You have a beautiful Red Sex Link. Thanks for posting the pic. Sex Links are laying machines. You will get loads more large, brown eggs from those six girls. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Sex Links.

Congratulations to your daughter on her wins at the fair. I think raising poultry is a wonderful hobby for the entire family and one your kids can get so much out of. We have 3 red sex links in our mixed flock and they are our most dependable layers of big brown eggs. It sounds like you are really enjoying them.

Thanks for joining us and if you have questions, always feel free to ask!

Glad your daughter is in 4-H. It is such a great thing. Hopefully next year we will not have an AI scare and she will be able to take her bird(s) to the fair.

Thanks everyone, we do love our girls! I'm about to build a more secure coop for then to get through our winters here in Ohio, and I look forward to learning, growing and sharing with all of you!
