Hey all! My wife and I just our first chickens! We are in South Carolina and have a little over 7 acres to create our dream homestead. Chickens were our first step and we our loving them!

Here a shot of our Buff Orpingtons.

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us and congrats on your new flock - they are looking good! Gosh, i think if i had some land (rather than my yard, which my wife says looks like a farm

) I'd have a mental breakdown just thinking of what I'd do - I wish you all the best with your planning and future projects.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=learning+centre and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

Thank you CT! We moved into our house last October and have really tried to pace ourselves. We have been dreaming of owning land for a long time and now that it's here it is very hard to not take on to much all at once. We added 4 chickens (3 Rhode Island Reds and a Barred Rock) about 2 weeks ago and 8 more on Monday (Buff Orpingtons).

I will go joining the state thread. That will be very helpful! Also, if you have a minute, I posted in the Managing Your Flock section regarding our hens and roosters, which is which. Let me know what you think.

Thanks again!

You are most welcome. You may get more feedback if you post on the breed / gender forum - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this If you can take close up photos of each individual it will help a little. I'm no expert, but i would think that with wing sheen / colouring could suggest that they are boys. Its better to hear what the experts say.
