I started out looking at the pre-fab coops. The did seem very flimsy. We ended up reopening a doggy door I had on the back of my garage and creating the coop inside a room in the garage. This is my first time so I'm sure we'll have to maybe add things as we go.

That's a better idea in our climate. Just don't run your car in the garage in the winter to warm it up.

I have thought of that! However, we rarely park in the garage and when we do we pull out before letting the engine run! Good to point out though!

I think it looks good. Sounds like good vents. Is it sturdy? Can you mount roosts in it? May get hot in the sun but maybe you could put it someplace shady?

We got a Buff Orpington, two Barred Rocks, and a golden laced Wyandotte. We only ordered one of each, but I guess they threw in an extra

A lovely little mix --- yes, hatcheries frequently throw in "packing peanuts" for small orders as it helps to provide warmth in shipping and take up space which can help to prevent injury causes by jostling in more open spaces during the shifts of being shipped. The downside is that the extras are often those that have been sexed as cockerels as a way to get rid of them as there is not the demand for male chicks that there is for females. How old are your chicks now?
