Hello Crooked path. Welcome to BYC! There is tons of info here and very good people to help you on your journey as a new chicken owner. :)

I don't know how much reading/research you've already done, but if you want to get the most out of BYC, I suggest you do the following:
  • Spend some time in the Learning Center
  • When you have specific questions, most of the time a quick search will come up with the answers.
  • If you don't find anything useful that way, post your question in an appropriate sub-forum. People here are very helpful and will answer your question even it has been asked 100 times before.
There are a fair number of permaculturists/homesteaders scattered around BYC. Obviously, this site concentrates on chickens, but you'll find info/help on other birds/livestock, gardening, etc.

Enjoy your time here.

Thanks for joining us, it's nice to have you here! Your construction background will come in very handy with chickens and homesteading...it seems there is always a project needing to be done.

G’Day from down under Crooked path :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: Find Your State Thread

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Thanks to everyone for your kind words!

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Please post photos of your unknown birds at "what breed or gender is this." They should be able to sort them out.

Diva, I'll be sure to do that if I can't get it worked out myself 1st. I appreciate pointing me towards the forum. I've not had a lot of time to explore the site yet so was unaware.

I'll be sure to join some discussions in between my many, many tasks at hand and am glad to be able to enjoy the resources the site offers.

Cheers!
