I am in Southeast Texas and will have some chickens shortly. I am looking for some therapeutic chickens for my wife who likes the outdoors and animals. She has Alzheimers and animals have really helped. If you have chickens and a mate with Alzheimer's, would like to hear from you to see how this helped.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to BYC. Silkies may be worth considering. Try using the search function for using chickens as therapy animals. I believe there's one regarding autism, at least.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - Find Your State Thread

Best wishes

Hello and welcome to the forum.

:welcome

I live in the UK and we care for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia

Have you ordered some chickens from a local store or are you hoping someone on this forum can help?

We brought our Silkie chicks to meet everyone when they hatched and that went down very well so now we regularly have animals visit and actually have a resident who came in with her own little dog....and a resident cat :love

Music and dancing is very popular and art and craft afternoons are too...

Established routines are so important to people with memory problems so the action of going to open the coop, collecting eggs or just checking they’re ok....watching ‘chicken tv’ ..(my favourite!!) ....then giving treats in the afternoon......closing the door at dusk....every day, can become ingrained.

And if it EVER stops raining here, I can grab a coffee and just sit with my girls and my dogs, grab some vitamin D and just enjoy

:)

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Oh gosh I am so sorry about your wife! :hugs Silkies are a wonderful suggestion for a breed. Super friendly, almost like puppies. The Orpington breeds are super friendly as well, a bit more hardy than Silkies.

I wish you and your family the best! :)

Funnily enough, I’ve contacted a lady who hopes to have Buff Orpingtons in the spring. We have three point of lay on order.
We chose pol because we already have our super duper Silkie rooster, Kung Poo and don’t want any cockerels.
Can’t wait!

@banpouchi Buff Orpingtons are balls of fluff and have a super reputation for being friendly.

Fabulous! I love the Orps. Mine are huge on lap sitting, following me around like drooling puppies. Just a fun breed. Enjoy!
