Chickens are great therapy! You may also want to consider bantams ... my bantam Cochins [or Pekins, or Pekin Cochins depending on from where you hail] are super friendly and cuddly.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. These two in particular may be of interest to you at this stage:

I am in Southeast Texas and will have some chickens shortly. I am looking for some therapeutic chickens for my wife who likes the outdoors and animals. She has Alzheimers and animals have really helped. If you have chickens and a mate with Alzheimer's, would like to hear from you to see how this helped.
