As the title indicates, we are new to chickens.

We started with four chicks from TSC and went back to get some supplies, and came home with 2 ducklings!!

We were told that the chicks we got were Tetra Browns and that they are all females, we are not sure, but certainly hope so.

We have scoured the internet for information before and since getting our chicks and ducklings about three weeks ago. We cam across BYC and there is a host of information here, and we hope we can pick your brains for info.

Our family consists of myself, my better half Angie and her daughter J. We have three cats and would love to get a couple pet pygmy goats eventually.

It's nice to have you here!

I believe Tetra Brown's are another name for sex links (there are several names for them). If that's correct, the gender of the chick can be identified when they are hatched so you should be relatively sure the ones you got are female. Once the chicks are about 6 weeks old, you can post photos and verify their gender here:
What Breed Or Gender is This?

Thanks for joining us!

Thank you!

I have several questions and I am in the process of finding the right place to post them. I also need to add pics so my questions make sense.

We built a run that is 12' by 25' and have our TSC coop inside the run. For lack of better terms the coop is an open air coop with a raised enclosed nesting area. Since finding your website and "learning" some things, I wish we would have an enclosed coop so we could use the DLM. The enclosed "nesting" area also has a slide out poop tray. I am a bit bummed that it does not appear that we can do the DLM with our coop set up.

Thanks again for adding me.

Hi and welcome to BYC

Here’s a good link where you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

G'Day from down under wyzord :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Please do check out the Topic of the Week discussions Pork Pie mentioned. I have found these to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining. There are some down the bottom of the page which are duck specific.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.
