(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I started with my chickens last year in April. My first set of Hens grew up and with my Rooster I hatched out some babies. I have a "teenage" group of chicks from march and a baby group born on June 1st.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Too many. I love them all but with the hatchlings plus adding a few new breeds to the group and adopting a friends in order to breed them I ended up with 20.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a varied group. About 10 unique and several cross breeds.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love how the Mama hens have been raising their babies and how my Rooster plays the gentleman and watches out for his hens and chicks.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I've actually been a gamer for many years but now that I'm a home owner I've been trying to pick up some new hobbies. Some minor carpentry.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My parents had chickens once upon a time but I was already an adult when they started. So raising them on my own with my wife and kids has been a mostly new experience. I have a couple dogs and a couple cats.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I have been reading posts here and there for about a year now since I started my flock but I didnt join until recently. When i started breeding my chickens i had questions about the breeds of my hens as they didnt quite look like their breed is supposed to.

Hello, and welcome from another AZ. member! Glad that you joined! I'd be interested in what breed's are in your flock that you have. You are welcome to come and chat with us other AZ. member's here in our states thread:

So I'll give you my list. My 4 original hens from last year are a gold wyandotte, a gold Hamburg mix, an Americana, and a partridge cochin. I had a buff orpington rooster as well who father 2 of my "teens" from april with the wyandotte. But he started smashing and eating the eggs during the brooding process. He was also aggressive so we got rid of him. We acquired a new rooster who is either a swedish flower hen or an aloha, not sure. Then he bred 4 mixes with my original hens. My teens we mixed in a bunch of new breeds under mamma hen to raise. We added a deleware, a jersey giant, a brahma, a blue australorp, a cuckoo maran, and then a couple straight run easter Egger bantams who have both turned out to be cockerels. Then recently we took in a friends Dixie rainbow and blue Americana to breed.

hello @Revanneo ! welcome to BYC :frow
Is that a SFH roo in your avatar?
Hi that's actually kind of what I've been trying to research in another thread. I thought he was at first but my friend discovered a local breed called aloha chicken that is very similar to SFH. He showed up in a friends yard and she can't have roosters and neither can anyone within a few miles of her so I took him. But I have no idea for sure what he is. But considering I'm in AZ my guess is Aloha
