Chickens are a social bird, but there are several people here will tell you, one chic by itself can survive. I would suggest giving it lots of attention, add a hand mirror to the brooder, so it thinks it is with another chick, add a small stuffed animal it can snuggle with to stay warm, and has comfort. There has been a few people on here lately with issues of birds dying from TSC, so don’t beat yourself up, I’m starting to think it is a hatchery problem or TSC problem, not what anyone is doing is causing this. Just keep the lone little one warm and as said above comfortable and loved it has a great chance to survive.

I'm looking for a local hatchery to get some chicks soon . I ordered some but they won't arrive until june not soon Enough.

Welcome to BYC, and good luck with the next set of chicks. A picture of your brooder and heat source, feed, etc might help in discovering what happened to your first chicks.

Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
I'd get at least one more chick now. Chickens are flock animals and do not do well alone. TSC typically absorbs the losses from shipping before the chicks are put out for sale.
Please start a new thread under Raising Baby Chicks and post a picture of your brooder, what you are feeding them, what bedding you are using, where you are keeping them and any thing else pertinent you can think of and you will get ideas on what went wrong.

Oh no, how sad. I’m sorry your introduction to chicken-keeping was so distressful. I hope your remaining chick is ok and that you find another one to keep it company soon.

It's a large round rubber tub with flake pine bedding I feed them medicated chick feed and chick grit probiotic in water and eltrolite with tiny bit acv they are in my garage elevated and I use a 200w hear bulb
