Hi everyone. I'm a new chicken Mom and have a lot to learn. My husband has wanted chickens for a while, specifically a rooster because he likes to hear them crow but I never wanted chickens. To tell the truth I was a little afraid of them since I saw a new mama hen chase my younger brother for no reason when we were very young. Our son-in-law ended up giving us 4 Seabright bantams in May and that was the beginning. We now have 20. As for the breeds of them we have 3 White Leghorns (laying), 2 red and 1 brown Easter Eggers (not laying) that we got at the same time. The man we got them from said they should start laying around Oct. and the Leghorns sure did. Not so for the EE. We still have 2 of the Bantams 1 silver, 1 golden, 1 bantam that I think is a black australorp (not laying), 1 brown that I have no idea what she is (laying), she's small and from a picture I saw could be a game bantam? 2 that I think are California Whites (laying), 1 black hen that we were told was a black copper maran (laying), 3 blues that I have no idea what they are, they have feathered feet and legs and are a big size chicken (not laying) and my rooster. I don't know what he is. He's small at least a bantam cross, but he is a beauty. Red and shiny black. We raise beef cattle and hay on our farm and lease farms. We are also parents to 3 dogs and 2 cats. I have become obsessed with chickens since we got these. They are addictive to me! I was so glad I found this site while using Google to try to learn about chickens. Thanks for letting me join.
Linda
