New to chickens!

Hello! I'm about to move to Hartselle Alabama and finally have a couple acres and and am planning to get a small flock of chickens for the first time. Excited about permaculture and using chickens not just for eggs but for gardening and bug control tasks. Hopefully our lab learns to keep them safe instead of stressing them out! Any other permies out there?
