New to Chickens

Hi! I'm Rhiannon. I am new to chicken raising - my husband has wanted them forever and we know many people who have chickens but I am trying to learn as much as possible before our chickens arrive tomorrow.

We are getting 5 hens that are just under a year old and started laying in November and a young rooster around the same age.

My family and I love in Alabama, we have three children.

In our area many, many people have chickens. We are getting the hens (Buff Orpingtons) from one friend and the rooster (I have no idea what kind he is - he is all white) from another.

The rooster I have met, he is not aggressive (so far) my kiddos have been around him and we are hoping he will stay non-aggressive - I don't want to eat my first rooster.
