Welcome to BYC. Did you order any cockerels? Sometimes they mark the cockerels for identification.

Quick follow up…I also received an extra chick. I’ve noticed the mark on 4 of them. I realize too many roosters may cause a problem but I figured I may lose some in the process (shipping, getting accustomed to new environment, sickness,etc) but it makes sense that if they are going to ship an extra it would be a male.

Thanks! I tried googling if hatcheries do this but could never find a definite answer. Your response makes me feel better. I’m excited to see these little ones grow. They look like beautiful birds once they’re grown. Thanks again.

I’m very grateful for all the “welcomes” and responses to my question. Before I started this I did a lot of reading and, I’m still early in the process, but, the best info I’ve gotten is from message boards like this one. It’s One of the reasons I joined.
