I recommend getting chicks from around your area, they'll be better prepared for your climate, etc. I also only recommend getting tiny chicks so you control quality of life. I bought pullets and they weren't raised right, two have feet issues that are permanent, three got sick in the first winter 
. The chickens I raised from babies are all healthy. As for roosters, you may have trial and error, I lucked out my first rooster is great!
