Hello everyone. I always saw myself with chickens someday, but never lived anywhere where I could have them. I've been a bird lover since I was a little kid, and loved researching different birds, but my hands on experrience is mostly limited to parrots. I finally live somewhere where I can have 6 hens. I currently have 22 cocaktiels, 2 macaws, and now 7 one week old Buckeye chicks. I didn't realize how hard it was so order female chicks if you didn't order early, but I kept searching and eventually found Buckeye chicks available from Cackle Hatchery shipping in just a few days from when I came across them. It also happened to be my birthday when they would be ready. Normally I'm the type that would research days and weeks before making a decision, but I felt really pressed for time. So my research stopped at whether or not they were friendly, ok with kids, and decent egg layers. Also learned they were cold hardy which is great. It hit -30 here one night this winter. My limited research checked out so I ordered them. I looked a day or 2 later and they were sold out. They've only been here 5 days, but they have been so fun. I'm excited to start my chicken journey. I'm sure I'll ask a lot of questions. I look forward to talking to all of you.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Parrots are a lot of fun to keep. I kept Lovebirds and Cockatiels for a couple decades. Very fun birds. Buckeyes are a beautiful breed of chicken, love the red color!

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything along the way, be sure to ask. Welcome aboard!
