New to chickens

Hello all. Just getting started with chickens here in Michigan. Retired and keeping busy. Got six chicks all hens and am in the process of building their coup and run. Just about finished. Was wondering if I could use pine needles for nesting material? I have tons of the darn things out back.

Pine needles work great! I also collect all neighbors bagged leaves they love scratching thru that. Plus it all composts faster than shavings and straw. During the winter I filled their plastic enclosed play yard with leaves, come spring it was ready for composting. Best yet it is all free!
