I am "lnysmom" We've decided we want some chickens. One for the fresh eggs, and two to give my children the experience. Needed to know what chickens are the quietest, lay eggs often and cannot fly high enough to get into my neighbors yard. Also I am in AZ so it gets very hot in the summer, sometimes up to 115!! Any suggestions and info would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! :)

I recommend golden comets. They are very sweet, quiet, and contented. Mine lay a lot of big brown eggs, just about everyday. Although they can fly, they don't jump fences too often as long as their needs are being met. This is a red sex linked chicken. There are a few different names of red sex links (golden buff, red star...mine were called golden comets) Red sex link means you will know from day 1, you definitely have pullets, and no roosters. These chicks are unlikely to go broody and hatch babies....if you want broodies, I would recommend australorps. Of course then you need a rooster...

Good luck!

thank you for the information...we aren't permitted to have roosters, so we'll stick to eggs and purchased chicks right now.

But I will check out the chickens you've recommended.

Hi and :welcome

I recommend sex links too - I have been keeping them for years and they lay eggs every day. We often have too many eggs in the fridge, even with only two laying hens.
Mine can't fly very well either, although next door's have been known to fly over the fence and hang out with our hens. :lau Although wing clipping can easily take care of that.

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D
Good luck!
