My name is Nikki, I live in northwest Florida and this is our first year raising chickens. I own a custom cake business out of my home and have 3 young sons, so I am home a lot. We only eat organic and natural foods, so raising chickens for eggs and meat seemed like a great way to monitor what we put into our body. We also raise and breed meat rabbits and will be getting a piglet in a few months. We converted an old wooden shed into a huge coop and spent two weeks building the most secure chicken run we could (we have a real problem with coyotes and bobcats). We have purchased 10 Americaunas, 10 Wyandottes, and two roosters. We will be raising for meat and eggs so we started with a large flock. I used this site to prepare for our chicken venture.
