Overwhelmed is the best way to describe things.

Decided I wanted 5-6 chickens for the backyard (urban neighborhood), began searching plans, and became paralyzed by all the options...

Where do I begin? I'm thinking tractor so I can move it around. I also like the PVC idea for frame, but for the life of me can't get beyond the first step due to paralysis by analysis!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Even if you use a tractor, it is a good idea to have a permanant structure, as you may at times want to confine your birds, and coops can be made much more predator-proof than a tractor. Spend some time surfing in the small coops section, and something will likely attract you.

Thanks for the tip - I actually like the permanent idea better just thought tractor would be best. Glad to hear your opinion. I'll try the small coup section!

I would think chickens like to fly some(even just back and forth from one end of the run to another - so I would guess being in a tractor is annoying. They pretty much have to be bent over picking at the ground all the time. No room to stand up tall or roost on a higher level. Plus tractors are fairly easy for a good sized predator to just flip them on their side.

Okay guys - I've been convinced against the tractor the more you've said and the more I've read...
