I started out just last March (2013) with the desire to raise a couple of hens and get some eggs. Well, I fell in love, and then my cousin had 4 bantams that she couldn't keep, so we built another coop and took them in...not really in that order. Ah...the 4 hens form my cousin turned out to be 2 hens and 2 roos. My Polish hen laid her first egg in Oct., and my husband surprised me with an incubator,so I just had to mail order some Serama eggs to add to my mix. On Thanksgiving day I hatched 5 Seramas and 7 Silkie/Polish. That said, in just short of eight months I went from no knowledge of chickens, to a small laying flock, and now to a total of 20 mixed! I am loving every minute of the time I get to spend with them. Can't remember when I have had so much fun!
