New to chickens

Heres the baby ones. I dont know why the black one (henry) isn't here. The black and white one is Hennifer, the brown and black one is Josh, and the brown and white one is Chicken Little. They're all about 3 months.

These two are the chickens or hens. The brown one is Henny Penny and the white one is Peep. Henny Penny is the one that pecked the crap out of Hennifer.

I'm so sorry for all those pictures. lol. But how long should we wait until we put Hennifer back in the coop? How should we reintroduce Hennifer when shes better? And, Henny Penny is very mean, I know shes the top chicken, but she chases the other chickens around.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! With integrating the new chickens, it is usually best to wait until they are about the same size, then a long period of seeing but no touching through wire seem to work best, ie dividing the coop into two sections or keeping the younger ones in a cage inside the coup for a couple of weeks to a month at least. The chickens will get to know each other and sort of work out a pecking order before actually coming in contact with each other. If you have a place you let them free range/ out that is not in the coop/run, in a few weeks you can start leaving them together there for awhile while you are supervising. It will take quite a while. There is a nice article in the Learning Center on integrating flocks you might like to check out, the part about actually combining them is after the quarantine section https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/adding-to-your-flock

How long is quite awhile? I am integrating 1 new hen with my 3 originals. They are all in the 7-10 months old age range. No real fights just chasing and pecking .

Almost forgot to welcome you to BYC! I hope Hennifer recovers soon. They say put tree bark sealant on the wounds to staunch the bleeding. Must have been a bad fight. I had to re home one of my original girls because she kept trying to kill one of the others. She was scary.

Do we need to wipe the blood off of her before we eventually let her back in the coop? Or will it just wear off? Shes very squirmy and I dont want to get pecked. lol. If the blood stays on, are they still going to peck at her?

She must not be bleeding when she goes back with the flock. They will just keep pecking at the wounds. See articles on chicken cannibalism . I would wait till she heals up. She looks hurt.. I am not real experienced but I have read that once a chicken is bleeding...the others just keep piling on. Please find out all you can . There are many on the BYC. with tons of experience.
