Well the wife finally agreed to us getting some chicks, so we picked up 6 for now (3 black, 3 red sex links). I converted a shed we had but didnt use into a coop (its 10x12) and fenced in a run ( about 25x35) the run doesn't have a top, but the girls are locked upsecure the coop before dusk. I just wanted to say thanks for all the great info and advice I have picked up on here, as well as show off my set up a little, I would love to hear a little feed back.

The door/window is actually level, the shed is not

Tonight is the first night I've seen the girls up on the roost

I thought they might need a little help getting up to the roost.

Let me know what you guys think

Congrats on having your chicks!!!
Nice work on getting them all comfy. They will use the booster step to get to the roost. Nice of you to think of that for them.
Excellent size for the run. They should be very happy there.

I know you are aware already but the mom in me makes me say it.

Beware the hawks. They will snatch a hen in broad daylight.
A redtailed hawk tried for my largest hen with me having just stepped out of sight. (literally it was less than one minute)

Hawks are my only concern as of now. But I am prepared for predator loss. Once they get older I plan to allow them to free range our 10 acres, so I know I can protect them all the time
