I have to have a roo to just get eggs? I don't want the roo to get mean as it gets older. My family and I li we only want to ke to be able to handle them all as they grow. I am thinking of getting Rhode Island Reds? we only want about 5 to start.

No roos needed to get the girls laying eggs. Only need them for breeding.

Half a dozen RIR's will make a very good size flock for eggs and when they're handled a lot, they're easier to tame.

Good luck and enjoy !

Thanks my kids ages 8 and 9 are thinking of the ckickens as new pets and want to treat then as you would a kitten . hope it works

as long as you handle your chicks alot they should be ok (but make sure not to hurt the peeps)
