Hi Folks!!!

Just started trying to get some info regarding raising chickens and came across this site. It's Awesome. We really look forward to getting good advice and sharing experiences with you all. We live in Upstate NY and have three kids (twin girls (5) and a little man (3 &1/2) who are all very excited about our new chicks. We are brand new at this so I'll be asking LOTS of questions. Hopefully everyone will be patient with my lack of knowledge. Look forward to interacting with you all. Thanks in advance for all the advice. :D)

! Pleased you joined us! Eating eating is a real problem once the birds have learned it. Calcium (oyster shell) will harden up the eggs but as I said, once they get the taste they will peck open even the hardest egg. Some options: getting a new kind of nest box where the freshly laid egg rolls forward and into a covered area safe from the hen. Another is to remove the offender(s) if you can figure out the culprits. You might also post in the link below - maybe others have had similar experiences and come up with other solutions. Start with the calcium and see if it works. Good luck to you!!

Hi Kevin from Kansas.

Thanks for the info. Still got a while til they start laying but i'll keep the info tucked away. By the way...LOVE your dog. We had two but lost them both within 5 months (13 1/2 & 12). we really miss them. How are they with chickens??
