Hi everyone,

My name is Sarah and my husband and I recently acquired our first 8 chicks. I'll answer these questions here as an introduction. Nice to meet everyone!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes, we are new. I have chicken-sat before for adult chickens on a few occasions but never had my own because of lease restrictions. Now we own a house and are ready to get started with a flock!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We currently have 8 chicks. 4 of them are about 4 weeks old and the other 4 are older (I was told 8 weeks but I think that may not be accurate).

(3) What breeds do you have? We have a fun mix - 2 Black Australourps, 2 Americanas, 2 Rhode Island Red/Rock Hen crosses, 1 Buff Orpington, and 1 Coachen mix.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Google

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Hobbies include gardening, camping and other outdoor sports, dog shows, photography, and hunting (for food)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Right now it's just me and my husband. We have two dogs - a Bull Terrier and a German Shorthaired Pointer, and regular fosters for a local rescue. We also have a hedgehog and a handful of barn cats. We live in the greater Denver area in Colorado and love it!

G'Day from down under Sarah :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. This one may be of particular interest:
Topic of the Week - Dogs and chickens

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, fur babies or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
