Hi!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes! Our 4 chicks (Buff Orpingtons - hopefully female) & 2 ducklings (Pekins - also hopefully female) were hatched May 6.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?See above

(3) What breeds do you have? See above

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? So far their personalities are very amusing - and a huge source of enjoyment for our kids.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Raising humans. Gardening. Hot yoga. Pilates. Weight lifting. Cooking.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a SAHM to 3 young kiddos - ages 8, 5 & 3. 2 older rescued cats aged 11 (they seem mildly interested but mostly nonplussed about the birds). My husband is in technology, currently working from home full time until the pandemic eases up. We have wanted chickens for 10 years, and finally feel ready to make it happen.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D Online search - probably 5 years ago? Now that we have the ducks & chicks I have some questions! Thank you for the add.

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people! Good luck on the male/female ratio. Out of six we hatched, looks like we got 3/3 but it's still a tiny bit soon, so we have our fingers crossed!
