New to Ducks

Yeah it was an old dog kennel we had on the side of the house.

That’s a really nice set up , how do you drain the pond? I have to scoop my kiddie pool out with buckets ..I have to do it tonight

Just don’t get so many that you are overwhelmed, trying to sell a few drakes is not so bad many people have ducks and if you want eggs like me your feeding 4 or 5 for one egg !

Good luck with all your choices, I don’t free range my birds either , it’s a choice we made and I’m ok with it

Yeah it was a old dog kennel on the side of the garage. We built the coop out of pallet wood we had laying around. We have chicken fencing and we are going to build a enclosure. But they come outside of the kennel during the day and when I’m home. They go in their duckhouse at night. Right now they’re in their house sleeping and the door is open. They’re pretty great.

We actually are going to adjust how we empty their pool. I’ll find a picture of what we are going to do and send it. Their currently pool is actually really deep. It’s something I picked up at TSC on sale. We’ve put minnows in the pool for the Campbell’s (still haven’t done it for the ducklings). And the ducks will dive down and get the minnow. Right now we drain the pool by putting an electric pump in it and it’ll drain a lot of the water out.

So this is what we are kinda going to do because there’s already a drain hole at the bottom and it’s up on a hill. We are going to attach a hose going through the hill and have a switch that you can turn if you want to drain it

They are very beautiful ducks. The two Khaki Campbell's are definitely drakes as for the pekin I'm not that sure but I feel like it may be a drake as for the Rouens I think 2 or 3 may be drakes, I'm not that sure so I could definitely be wrong.

Do you think you could record a video of them quacking and upload it on YouTube and send the link?

I could try tomorrow. They’re sleeping in their house right now!

That’s really neat , I just emptied mine first time it smelled like poop I left it a week and I noticed they didn’t go in it today .... maybe every 5 days I’ll empty it. I’m just learning what they like .

So I empty it clean it with vinegar and fill it up , it’s bed time but before I could get in to herd them to bed they all 6 jumped in and splashed out two inches of water !! They were just crazy about the cold clean water...

Next time they go to bed first
