I decided I wanted to have some chickens in my big back yard, I did not realized the many different breeds that exist and I am overwhelmed . But I am excited, I remember growing up in Puerto RIco and chasing chickens and picking up some eggs from their nest for breakfast. Looking forward to new horizons, any tip would be greatly appreciated , I live on an Island that is 26 miles of Long Beach ,California. Already made a small chicken coop, to start off, I would probably get 3 of them, don't think I can get a rooster, My neighbors might complain about their early morning wake up call.

Henderson's Chicken Chart (web search for it if interested) and the breeds section of BYC are good places to start!

Hi everyone, we ordered our chicks, we are excited ,will let you know when they arrive, and post some pictures. We are both nervous, both my hubby and I raised 7 children between the two of us, the nest is empty, we're looking forward to raising some chickens.

I live in Spokane, WA. and the best laying hens I have ever had is Black Sex Links, Golden Sex Links and Red Sex Links. If you want to have chickens that are good layers, go to the nearest Big R Store or Aslin Finch. They know when and where you can get good layers. The Sex Links breeds of chickens are very hardy and "weather resistant". I just love them!! and I get LOTS of eggs.
