whats up guys i'm new to this forum and new to chickens. my name is Gian and im a 27 year old stationary engineer from California. i just finished my coop last night and need to start my run on monday. wanted to post some picks introduce myself and pick peoples brains on runs. i have a mixed flock of 12 chicks about 5 weeks old and am going to move them to their coop on monday and put the heat lamp in there for them. i spent way too much on my hen house and want to keep the run as cheap as possible. my house is a 4x8 + 3x2 exterior nesting box. it came out pretty sweet just was expensive. my adore1 auto door will be here on tues and thats my last touch beside some last minute hardware cloth vent patches for added security. for the run id like to use t posts because i have them and i purchased a hundred feet of 4' hardware cloth and ill probably used reg welded wire for the roof of the run. i see alot of people have neg feelings on t posts but i have them already and would like to use them to save some cash. my hen house is a little excessive and over the top but i like it. i feel like everything we do in life is a signature of our work and by nature im kindof a perfectionist when it comes to building things. hoping i have adequate ventilation and really exited for this new experience raising these egg layers. thanks for any tips advice or comments you guys have for me on my new journey!

That is some work of art....incredible coop! I am jealous...I have an old coop with concrete floor...built about 200 years ago I think...my other coops are converted from stables...these are very old too...maybe get my DH to look at this and get started on a project....!

Nice coop! You did a great job in building it. What kind of chicks do you have?

Not real sure who is who or what I have. Kinda went off my local feed and fuels recommendations. It's a small town farm supply and trusted they would give me good info. Def got 3 jersey giants and a few Plymouth rocks. Think speckled Sussex and mericanas Americanas something like that. Chickens a chicken. Haha

That is one very, very nice build. You can be proud of that one for sure. Attention to detail and fit and finish all look to be first class. As first builds go, you have a home run there for sure. I like the 'hidden' peace sign on the back of the nesting box…

I suppose many of us spend too much on our birds/coops/runs/what have you. So what? It is all about enjoying the experience, and you will never feel bad going out to chore in that one. So I say never apologize for the things in life that please you. No one here should be auditing you anyway.

Anyway, welcome to BYC and thanks for the nice photographs, a very nice introduction.

thanks guys. lots of kind words. my dad was a hippie so had to throw the peace sign on the door!
yea the whole reason i got the idea for all this was because i work out alot and my current diet I'm eating 10 eggs for breakfast a day. that being said been buying 70 eggs a week from Costco... my buddy gave me some farm fresh eggs and what a difference in taste! next thing you know I'm at home depot. its been a fun project and look forward to the finished project and many entertaining days watching my 12 pack mixed flock do their thing. ill have the yard done tomorrow for them and then ill add some stumps and a bath area for them to get dirty. the only pain i have to shovel about 6-9 inches of gravel to hit dirt which I'm sure they will appreciate. cant wait for my auto door and auto feeders to come so i can get it all set up. ill post more pics as they come.
