Hi, I just joined. After recently moving to the country we got four red sex link hens earlier this month on a trial basis, and decided we like them enough that we're going to keep them, and probably get more. We're going to eventually build a permanent coop and run, but for now we just purchased a pre-made coop since we're still in the process of fixing up the house and trying to sell our old one, so building the permanent one will have to wait until the end of the summer.

I grew up in the suburbs, and while two neighbors raised rabbits for meat, no one had chickens. So this is all very new to me.

The reference book we're using is Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens. I hope that is good enough to give us an idea of how to keep these birds happy and healthy.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/website-announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3/?prefix_id=3
