Hi all, I've just joined but have been using the sight since last year. I'm from Southeast VA. We got our first bantam last July, 2010 from a farmer friend. That started my love. Then we went back and got some 6 week old chicks and he gave us a straight run of 17 and another bantam. Come to find out as they grew that they were black copper marans. They are beautiful and the sweetest creatures! They love to be held and feed by hand. So obviously we had to cull the 9 roosters but kept the best two. Which left me with 6 hens. I'm a numbers person. Back in April I bought an icubator and set 35 eggs. Guess how many hatched? 27! Can you believe it? They are adorable little black fuzzies. I'll have to figure out how to post some pics. Funny thing is, I think one of my bantam roosters mated with a marans hen because I have 3 light brown striped chicks. I didn't think they could do that! Enjoying my babies. This sight has been invaluable to me. Thanks everyone.

BTW, I am also blessed with 5 kids, 1 grandchild and a husband and 2 dogs.

Hi there! Glad you decided to join us! As for one of your little guys sneaking in some "romance time" with your full-sized hens, yes, trust me, it can be done. My little guys are nothing if not determined....

I guess the old saying "where there's a will, there's a way" really IS true...

And yes, those bantams are frisky devils! My only rooster is a bantam and my hens are 5 orps and 1 brahma bantam. I just hatched 2 mixed chicks. Cuties!
