Good morning. I'm new to geese, one animal I've never had before. Can anyone tell me breed or gender? Any first time tips? Got them from auction and they are very wary. Trying to figure them out. Thanks for any info!

We had snow geese briefly when I was growing up. The white one looks similar to a snow goose. Ours were great. Very friendly to us and even allowed us to dress them up! However, they did not like the joggers that would come by and frequently chased people that came near the yard. Although not intended, they actually acted as very good guard birds. What are their names?

Need closer pictures to know the breed. And sex will be more difficult to determine than that, unless they are Pilgrim geese or another autosexing breed.

Need closer pictures to determine breed and sex. Also need their age. They'll be able to get through those panels, you'll need to wrap them with smaller wire "chicken wire or hardware cloth". They also could easily fly over that short of a fence if they should get spooked or cornered. That small of a pen is going to be a barren dirt patch in a few days "i.e. mud after a rain" with four geese in it. I'd recommend an approx. 100ft x 100ft pen for 4 geese. And they'll still likely turn it to dirt in time.

Thank you! they are in a temporary pen. We are expanding it to about 2 acres (expecting sheep too). Have also clipped their wings to hopefully curb the escape tendencies. CLoser pic when I get home!

Wont be dressing them up for sure! :) i'm sure they will be territorial. already showing signs of that. Um, their names? We were told they were one male and 3 females. Frankie and the Curses. Frankie, Dammit, Oh Hell and What the Duck...... We never take anything too seriously.....

They are getting an enlarged enclosure this weekend to include a pond. Almost 2 acres in a couple months. So far they have not been very active. Not even eating as I see it. Their wings are clipped as well--hopefully still able to defend themselves but not able to escape.

Sounds like a great plan. Still need some closer pics, it very possible you've got Pilgrims there. Geese can defend themselves against small animals like possums, rats, or stray cats. But anything larger "dogs, coyotes, raccoons, owls, etc." will be able to kill them if given the chance.
