Hi
We were given a gosling last year. It was the last one that had survived the crows so we said yes when asked if we'd like it. I've only ever had chooks. Ducy lived inside and slept in a box near my daughter's pillow at night and was carried around and cuddled all day. She had separation anxiety if you left her alone so we never did. She weened herself at about 3 months old, happy to sit in the sun outside and snooze, and nibble grass, but only on one side of the yard(where staff and lots of guests walk past). We gave her a child's paddle pond and she loved that. We knew nothing about raising geese. She developed angel wing(as I found out from this group) we thought she had damaged it. so we bandaged it up and changed her diet. After 3 days we took it off and she has been good since. Eventually we put her in with the chooks. She was scared of them at first for a long time but learnt they would not hurt her, but she didn't like being in the pen much. She now has her own yard around the workshop shed and is very happy in her own kingdom. We did worry about whether she was lonely but she appears to be very happy and contented. She recently started laying eggs. A baby gosling arrives tomorrow because we want her to have a friend. I've just been reading how to do it on this forum do hopefully all goes well. We absolutely adore her. We never knew how interesting and affectionate a goose is.
