I am soooo excited. I have been asking my husband if I could get a pair of geese for two years and he finally said yes today! I already have LF chickens and Cayuga ducks. I told him I would like to hand raise the goslings so I would wait til July but after looking on-line, most places do not have them available then so I told him this. He said can you order them now? So I did! I ordered 4 African goslings from McMurray Hatchery. They will be here at the end of April. If anyone has anything they think I should know, please let me know. I have spent time reading about the different types of geese and what you have to do to keep them friendly and how to take care of them but I want as much information as I can get. I want to make sure I do the best I can for them.

Our Africans are pasture birds since they are louder and generally more aggressive than our other breeds. They know the routine and are easy keepers. The gander is very protective of his girl, and their eggs are producing strong off spring. Would I buy more of this breed? No, we have others we prefer and are calmer.

With that said any breed can produce a naughty goose/gander though. Just some are more prone to it, and some are more prone to be calm and quiet.

Enjoy them and good luck with them.

So we got our 4 hatchery aftrican goslings this Wednesday and they definitely have a personality. Every time we go and work with them, they talk to us non-stop. They are very cute and so far, very friendly. I also got 6 female cayuga ducklings and one of the ducklings like to sleep on one of the goslings. It is very cute.
