Thank you for being here!

My husband and I bought our 11 hens and 1 rooster from a farmer who was done with raising chickens in October of this year.

We are so new to raising chickens that I can't even tell you the breeds. (I am thinking 3 australorps, 1 leghorn, and I need to do more research beyond that). The charts that I have found for identifying breeds are either out of focus, or don't contain our ladies. It could be that they are crossbred too.

Our chickens are free range during the day and get layer pellets as well (this is recent, because I was originally misinformed that scratch is adequate as feed). We also feed table scraps and I cook them up pinto beans every couple of weeks or so.

For rookies, we are doing pretty well. All seem healthy now (except for one who is plucking her feathers). We inherited them with fowl pox which we successfully resolved about a month ago. They have also made it through a molt.

If you have a good source for identifying chickens, I'd love it!

Look forward to the community.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us :ya

Sounds like you've been through a crash course on chickens and doing well. With treats, I recommend keeping them at less than 10% of total diet, which sounds like you're already doing... Just wanted to put a number on it.
